This weekend, Winter Storm Fern will impact much of the American East, blasting Upstate South Carolina with up to over half an inch of ice on Sunday. This will be the largest winter storm for the South in years, with tens of millions of people under a winter storm watch or warning.
The SCDOT has already mobilized several thousand employees in anticipation of the storm, where ice is expected to bring down branches, cover roads, and even bring down power lines. Gov. McMaster declared a state of emergency for South Carolina on Wednesday, signaling the severity of the situation, primarily in the Upstate.
As of now, it is still unclear whether school will be canceled next week, and students are encouraged to stay tuned for official updates.
