Edgewood Middle School’s Junior Beta Technology team placed second nationally this summer after revising the project that earned the students third place at the state convention earlier this year.
The team competed in Junior Beta Technology at the South Carolina Junior Beta Convention, held Jan. 21–23 in Myrtle Beach. After placing third at state, the students decided to revise their video before submitting it for national competition.
The two-minute video, The Connectivity Lab, was created around the convention theme, “Connectivity is Key to Beta.” In the video, connectivity at Beta HQ goes offline, and Beta members work to restore the organization’s four pillars: achievement, character, leadership and service.
The students developed the original version during their recording session, planning and filming the video in about two hours.
Before nationals, the team kept the same basic concept but made changes to the editing and rewrote the voiceovers. The “Beta Lab” idea was inspired by Edgewood’s 2025 Technology Team project, which placed first at the state convention and third nationally in Orlando.
The revised video placed second in Junior Beta Technology at the National Junior Beta Convention, held June 23–27 at the Gaylord Opryland Resort and Convention Center in Nashville, Tennessee.
Tucker Bell represented Edgewood in Nashville with his family. The national team also included Matthew Davis, Farris Spearman, Zeb Rush and Aiden Sims. Jude Burgeson participated in the version of the project entered at the state convention.
